This winter has yet to show us very extreme driving conditions but winter isn’t over yet. Nebraska weather is notorious for changing at a moment’s notice. Safe winter driving requires knowledge and preparation. Take a moment to review these preparation tips for safe winter driving!

Vehicle Preparation Tips

1) Check your windshield wipers: Replacing your old windshield wipers can always be helpful especially when you find yourself in the middle of a winter storm.
2) What about your battery?: It's important to have a professional look at your vehicle's batter. Winter temperatures an add extra strain on batteries and you don't want to be stranded due to an old battery.
3) Keep an emergency kit ready: Just in case. You never know what winter weather will do, sometimes even making driving impossible. Your emergency kit should include, blankets, a flashlight, hand/foot warmers, shovel, bottled water and snacks.

Winter Driving Tips

1) Consider other drivers: Turn your lights on to increase your visibility to other motorists.
2) 4WD?: Don't assume your vehicle can handle all weather conditions, even 4-wheel drive and front-wheel drive vehicles can have difficulty on winter roads.
3) Stuck?!: If you find yourself stuck, don't spin your wheels because it will only dig you deeper. Instead, try turning your steering wheel side to side to help loosen snow around your tires.
